Phoenix SpitFire 40

Phoenix SpitFire

I started putting this war bird together on September 6, 2007. I am impressed with the kit so far. It calls for 40 to 46 size engine but it is a big plane and I think I might put an O.S. 55 ABX on it. It just doesn't seem like a 46 will be enough. Turns out the 46AX is plenty for it.

  • The covering has no bubbles.
  • All the parts fit together correctly.
  • Instruction manual could be better but if you ever built an ARF before you will do fine.
  • The retracts are a little funky and the strut needs to be cut because it is too long.
  • The canopy and pilot is already assembled.
  • Decals are installed
  • Overall it goes together easily . :-)

I crashed it twice the first day I tried to fly it. First it flipped when I went off the run way. Then it just veered right and went into the trees. No damage either time. Strong airplane. I went home after that.

I went out again and crashed the heck out of it. It sat rebuilt for about a year and then I flew it Dec. 27, 2008. I got 4 non eventful flights on it. Actually the ceiling was really low and I couldn't go high enough to fly it and trim it with out it disappearing in the clouds. So I trimmed it on the ground. After that it was a kick to fly. Flies fast and lands fast.
