VQ BF-109
ME 109 Fighter

I always wanted a me a ME-109. But I was only able to get the BF-109. Just kidding, I read the BF-109 and the ME-109 are one and the same airplane. The box on this one said it is the BF-109. The covering is kind of thick but it didn't have any bubbles when I got. It is more like shelving paper than the usual covering most planes have. The tail feathers were not cut nor aligned up right and I had to do a lot of sanding to get it but it still a little off. I hope it doesn't have too much effect. I put an O. S. 70 FS in it.

  • Instruction manual could be better but if you ever built an ARF before you will do fine. There are few gotchas with it though. Plan ahead.
  • Most of the decals are already installed
  • The 109 went together pretty easily
  • This airplane came with fixed landing gear but there are cut outs in the wing for retracts.
  • It balances nose heavy without the battery installed. Actually I don't see where the battery could go up front so I installed the battery aft of the servos to get the plane to balance.

ME-109

I took it to the field on Saturday (April 20, 2009) to try to do the maiden flight. It looked like the control surfaces were set right and I thought I was ready to go. I got it on the runway and it looked like it was taxing straight then the engine died. I couldn't keep the 4 stroke running. I had to take the cowl off to work on it which is always added fun. I don't really know what the problem was and I didn't want to get frustrated so I vowed to work on it when I got home. I flew my eXtra 260 4 times, my Spitfire twice, and the SkyBolt twice and called it a day. I took the tank out and re-plumbed it, everything looks good. It is a funky gas tank with some hokey connection at the top for the fuel filler line.

I have been flying the 109 for a few weeks now. It flies great. I added more throw in the airelons on high rates to get a faster roll out of it. It definitely flies like a war bird and not a 3d or sport plane. It looks really good in the air.
