Welcome to RC Airplane-South

Hangar 9 P-47

I made this website to chronicle my adventures in Radio Control Aircraft. I started flying in March 2007 and have a lot of fun flying these planes. I belong to SMRCF club in Stone Mountain, Georgia. We fly out of the old Stone Mountain Airport at the base of of Stone Mountain. It is a good club to belong to and the field is never too overcrowded. It is a good place to fly and to learn more about aircraft. Members have all kinds of airplanes and helicopters. From foamies all the way up to huge gassers. Many of the pilots moved over to electric airplanes. I have a few electrics too. I do like the sound of a glow engine over the whine of an electric but they have thier +'s though, like no clean up on the electrics and you can hear the wind over the wings. I like them both really.

Building and Flying Radio Controlled Aircraft is a lot of fun and quickly becomes a passion with many. After you fly your first plane successfully then you have been bitten, so be forwarned. I don't know one pilot who only has one plane.

First you have to join the AMA to fly at about any site. It gives you supplemental insurance.

Warning to New Pilots

Then join a club and have someone show you how to fly. If you try to fly by yourself bring a plastic bag and get ready for a 4 second flight followed by a crash. Usually a devastating crash.

That's Guaranteed.

Learn from an experienced pilot. If you don't believe it watch the video below
